Free internet access has now almost disappeared. Free web resources, such as free email and free web sites, are still one of the most popular free Promotional Items because they have a high advertising potential.
Free trial periods for Internet access are still available, but back in the 1990’s in the days of modem connections most accounts were in fact free. The longest you will get free internet access for these days is 14 days, before you will need to sign up and pay!
Of course you can still cancel trial prior to the end of trial period to avoid becoming a paid subscriber, but few would take the effort to continually be changing between 14 accounts.
Free stuff allows consumers to determine if a product is right for them before they actually spend money. In addition, freebies give consumers a chance to explore new products that otherwise they would not have tried.

One Internet site holds what it calls a Freebie Friday very often.

Companies do routinely give away free stuff to consumers. Most are trial-size items, but some are full-sized samples. Companies are always offering free samples, discounts and coupons for a very good reason. The hope they hold is that when you do, you will be pleased and you will want more.
