Diabetes is the metabolic condition of health that affects about five percent of the people alive today. More than ten percent of these of diabetics are insulin dependent. It produces side affects such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and peripheral vascular disease.
Those who get Type 1, juvenile diabetes, acquired it because their pancreas was attacked by a virus and stopped making insulin completely. Those who have Type 2 got it because the body over time became resistant to the insulin that is produced.
Even though today’s Western medical community does not agree with the idea that it is possible to reverse diabetes, there are several nutritionists who would argue that thought. They believe that by changing lifestyles and eating habits a person can improve their health and their body’s ability to live without drugs and pills.
The changes involve fatty acids and chromium. Fatty acids that are correctly digested are used by the body to protect cells and use insulin correctly. Chromium is something our bodies need to correctly metabolize sugar. When these two things are missing, our bodies are open to diseases such as diabetes.
So while reversing diabetes may not be possible, there are some nutritionists who believe that by following a few simple dietary changes a person with diabetes can live a longer life and not be dependent on medications.
